Our stellar cast
Kat Atwell is a storyteller, emcee, and comic with a passion for mental health advocacy and celebrating neurodiversity. She has spent over a decade serving as the emcee for Ignite Denver, bringing energy and humor to the stage, and is an enthusiastic member of The Moth storytelling community, captivating audiences with her heartfelt and often hilarious narratives. On the cusp of turning 50, Kat has developed an obsession with birdwatching and is working at coming to peace with the fact that her skincare regimen now includes neck cream. When she’s not at the thrift store or berating herself for having a cluttered home, she is likely on the phone with her mom or in the car with her brilliant and witty teenage kidlet, Lily.
Sheryl Cardozo is a sweaty, perimenopausal writer, educator, and mom to an 8-year-old who never met a boundary she didn’t try to negotiate past. Sheryl’s writing has been featured in such disparate publications as the Intermountain Jewish News and Seventeen, though her greatest body of work has been published by the House of Zuckerberg. A New Yorker, Sheryl arrived in Boulder in the 90’s. Then, a cute guy with an Aussie twang stole her heart and she followed him (with an invitation, she’s not a psychopath) down under. For fun, Sheryl loves skiing mediocrely, camping, and looking at old travel guides, remembering how she once had a life. She dabbles in stand-up and excels at talking about how she should do more stand-up. She lives in South Boulder with that same Aussie, the aforementioned 8-year-old, and their cock-a-poo-ish rescue pup Matilda.
Sarah Clark is a somatic relationship therapist, mom, and yogi. After 15 years as a stay-at-home "momtrepreneur," she transitioned into therapy, drawing on her creativity, yoga practice, 23-year marriage, and extensive training. Now, she helps clients transform conflict into intimacy, guiding them toward deeper connection. A Texas native, Sarah is in the bittersweet season of launching her four kids into the world. She is also an aspiring writer and blogger, passionate about exploring the complexities of motherhood, relationships, and healing. This passion inspired her upcoming process group, The Nuance of Motherhood, which helps mothers navigate identity, self-esteem, and connection beyond traditional roles. When she’s not working, you can find her backpacking, soaking in hot springs, or balancing in a handstand—sometimes all in the same weekend.
Sage Hobbs is a mom of two awesome humans, a happy life partner, a cancer survivor, “retired” school counselor, a beach-loving-book-nerd, and a kitchen dance party aficionado. She’s obsessed with her friends and family, and believes relationships and community are our greatest accomplishments. Professionally, Sage’s passion for maximizing human potential, building emotional intelligence, and cultivating cultures of equity has led to over 20 years of experience working in public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. She has written a book, Naked Communication, and hosts the “Race, Culture & Beyond" and “Principal Pep Talks” podcasts. Through writing, coaching, and facilitation Sage works with mission-driven leaders to create organizational cultures that ensure greater success and impact. Sage is known for leaning into the uncomfortable conversations that support growth and true connection.
Nikki Howley lives and works in Boulder, as a massage therapist and is a full time single mom to three teenagers, and also shares her home with three dogs, two cats and three bunnies. She loves her children, her rescue animals, talking on the phone and running, which brings her ultimate freedom. She will be running her 4th Boston Marathon this April as a personal comeback to rebuilding her life, her strength and her confidence. Thankful to her friends and her therapist, she is humbled to be part of the LTYM Boulder cast for the second time. Nikki’s dream is to write a hysterical piece to make you laugh so hard you pee your pants. Maybe next year.
Alice Shi Kembel is the mother of three boys, as well as a speech-language therapist, traveler, quilter, hiker, swimmer, pet-sitter, knitter, and writer. She enjoys spending time with her dog-cat Sushi, hiking 14ers very slowly, and writing snarky notes from characters like the “Towel Fairy” in a futile attempt to get her teenagers to clean up after themselves. In addition to winning the Family Narrative Project writing contest in 2017, her work has been featured in Elephant Journal, The Mindful Word, Akashic Books, Patch.com, Parenting on the Peninsula, Voices of the Asian American and Pacific Islander Experience, and the U.S. Masters SWIMMER Magazine. She has written a memoir, yet to be published, that chronicles her experiences as a mother drowning in a sea of testosterone.
Erin Livingston is a resilient solo mom, dedicated teacher, end-of-life doula, cancer survivor, and passionate outdoor adventurer. For Erin, the outdoors is where she feels most at home—whether she’s pushing her own limits or sharing the beauty of nature with her daughter. She’s committed to showing others that a deep connection to nature and outdoor sports doesn’t have to end once you have children. That’s why Erin has been camping and adventuring with her daughter since she was just six months old. Together, they’ve made lasting memories, exploring both coasts and venturing into Canada. Now living in Boulder with her two-year-old daughter, Erin dreams of one day moving deeper into the mountains or calling the ocean her home.
Jillian Marshall is a writer, educator, and mother of two children, ages 6 and 9. She has published an essay in Motherwell and written several articles for We Are Teachers. Jillian lives in Boulder, where she enjoys exploring local coffee shops and bookstores with her husband and kids. She also enjoys running (slowly) on the trails near her home. In addition to reading aloud to her kids, one of her favorite new activities is sitting alongside them as they discover the magic of reading books on their own.
Courtney McClymonds is an immigration attorney who prefers supporting other legal professionals to taking her own caseload. She began her career as a teacher, and then quickly pursued law when she realized that she loves kids too much to teach them. Courtney spent more than 15 years at various nonprofit organizations leading and supporting immigration legal services programs nationally. She left her job for health reasons in April of 2020, and had to learn how to be a stay at home during COVID lockdown. Courtney is in the process of figuring out what else her body will let her do when she grows up. She currently goes to doctors’ appointments, chases her children around, and checks the “homemaker” box on bank applications. Courtney lives in the mountains just outside of Denver with her husband Troy, 2 daughters and their cat named Goose.
Elaina McMillan has elevated results for groups and individuals for more than 20 years as a belief coach and hypnotist. She has also provided a steady stream of comic relief performing comedy on the topics of parenting, addiction, Alzheimer's, and other hard things. In 2024, Elaina co-created and launched Life: A Delightful Show About Fear & Grief, a cross-genre mash up of comedy, storytelling, and poetry designed to deliver a powerful, cathartic, and often amusing experience.
Nicole Montoya Brown is a proud wife and mother of two teenage sons who enrich her life every day. She is also a feline mom to two clever cats! She loves family, friends, and nature, whether it is hiking amongst ancient pine trees in the mountains or blanketing herself in fine sand near a roaring ocean. She is a cautious thrill seeker and enjoys skiing, biking, hiking 14ers, bungee jumping, and sky diving. She has earned a Top Writer status on the platform Medium through her pieces about race. She writes under her nickname “Coka Brown” and shares hard-hitting truths about Hispanic and Indigenous identity in the U.S. She also writes about politics and grief, which are sometimes intertwined! She spent 10 years as a hospice volunteer and draws from insights gleaned through her experiences, including her first patient ever—a 7-day-old baby. You can read more about that experience here.
