Our essay workshop is going virtual!
We are moving From Page to Stage on 5/28 to the comfort of your own home.
Our May 28th writing workshop is now virtual!
We are excited to host another personal essay writing workshop after the spring LTYM show, and we have a big announcement: By request, we are moving this workshop to Zoom so you can write, learn, and connect without leaving your house during a busy time of year. And if you’re not local, now is your chance to join us!
Join us for From Page to Stage on May 28th from 6-9 on Zoom for an intimate workshop where we give you all the tools and support to write your story. You can read all the details here. SIGN UP BY SUNDAY TO SAVE $30!
Are you struggling to get your story out of your head and onto the page? You’ve attended Listen To Your Mother for years, and every year you think, “I could be up on that stage.” But every year, the submission deadline comes and goes, and you think, “Next year.” Maybe you know exactly what you want to say… but it never comes out right when you put pen to paper. Or every time you open your laptop, your inner critic convinces you you’ve never had an original thought in your life.
The world needs your story. Your voice is unique. Your words do matter.
When you keep your stories to yourself, you’re doing yourself and your community a disservice. Stories connect us to one another and someone needs to be brave enough to share theirs first. Why not you?
Join us for an essay writing workshop on May 28th where we’ll give you the tools and support you need to craft your story. You’ll get tips on effective storytelling and the building blocks of a personal essay as well as 1:1 attention in breakout rooms from Pam and Steph.
We’ll cover:
The necessary ingredients of a personal essay
Brainstorming topics and distilling ideas
How to connect with your reader
The importance of creating scenes
Discovering what your story is really about
How to effectively revise your piece to make it stand out
The balance of showing and telling, and why it becomes even more important when reading your piece on stage
The difference between a piece of writing that reads better on paper versus one that comes alive when read aloud
This workshop is for women who want to hone their writing skills in a supportive group with guidance from professional writers. While this is a great opportunity to craft a potential Listen to Your Mother story, you’re welcome to work on whatever type of essay you want. You can come with the seed of an idea, a few stories to choose from, or even a first draft.
Wednesday, May 28th from 6-9 pm
Early bird pricing ($157) through Sunday, May 18th—$187 effective Monday, 5/19
Location: Zoom (We’ll email you a link)
Space is limited to 12 participants to foster an intimate, supportive environment
Interested in a women’s writing circle?
Steph will be offering a virtual version of her therapeutic writing circle—Writing Womanhood—on Tuesdays throughout the spring and early summer. Try a drop-in or sign up for all six dates. Each week includes writing prompts, freewriting, meditation, and connection, and our circles are sooo juicy. If you are feeling inspired to get in touch with your creative side without committing to writing a long-form piece of writing, this is a great way to get your feet wet, all from the comfort of home on Zoom!
Upcoming Shows
🛋️ Save the date! We co-produced I’m My Therapist’s Favorite, a comedy show that celebrates the chaos in all of us last month with our friend Joe Huisman — and it sold out — so we’re doing it again on Sunday, June 29th at The Bug Theater in Denver. Stay tuned for details and ticket info.
